DayBreak Adult Care Services Presents
Check to S.T.A.R.R, winner of the June Charitable Donation
Contest.
Columbia-Daybreak Adult Care Services is
celebrating their tenth anniversary and saying thank you by giving back to the
community. Each month the nonprofit organization receiving the most votes on
the DayBreak website receives a check from DayBreak Adult Care Services for
$500.00. A check was presented this month to S.T.A.A.R., a nonprofit 501(c) (3)
organization that assists official agencies in the searching for the lost and
the missing. S.T.A.A.R. with the help of its forty volunteers and employees
from Diamond Dog Food, the dog food supplier for the organization rallied
everyone to place their votes for the worthy organization.
S.T.A.R.R. is
made up of volunteers that devote their time helping others in need. S.T.A.R.R.
uses the assistance of service dogs that are trained and certified in live
tracking and cadaver detection. As a result of a combination of many mock
scenarios during routine evolutions and actual events, their team is exposed to
and proficient in wilderness search, building collapse, mass casualty events,
and search .
Just this past Sunday, July 17, 2010, there was a search in
Winnsboro in Fairfield County. A ninety-five yr old man with Alzheimer's walked
away from his home the evening before and was reported missing the following
morning. S.T.A.R.R. was called into the efforts approximately 6:30 am on Sunday
morning. Once on scene, a coordinated search plan was formulated and executed.
The man was located in good condition nearly a mile from home. He had spent the
night in the wooded area near his home.
