Resources for Families
Practical information for families considering in-home care, supporting an aging parent, planning after a hospital stay, or simply trying to understand what help may be available.
Support for Families
You don’t have to figure this out alone.
When someone you love begins to need more help at home, even simple decisions can feel overwhelming. These family caregiving resources are here to give you clear answers, practical guidance and a real person to talk with whenever you’re ready.
Not sure where to begin?
Every family’s situation is different. A few everyday changes can help you decide whether it may be time to talk about home care or added support.
- Is your loved one having more trouble keeping up with medications, meals, housekeeping or other daily routines?
- Do they need help with bathing, dressing, walking safely or getting around the home?
- Are you or another family caregiver feeling stretched thin, exhausted or unsure how long you can manage everything alone?
- Has a recent hospital stay, diagnosis, fall or change in mobility created new concerns about safety at home?

Home Care Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
These are some of the questions families often ask when they first begin exploring non-medical home care.
What is non-medical home care?
Non-medical home care helps with everyday activities such as bathing, dressing, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders and companionship. It does not replace skilled nursing or medical treatment, but it can work alongside those services to help a person remain safer and more comfortable at home.
How much does in-home care cost?
The cost depends on the number of care hours, the schedule and the type of support a person needs. During a free consultation, DayBreak can talk through your family’s situation and explain what a care plan may look like before you make a decision.
How do I know if my loved one needs help at home?
Changes such as missed medications, difficulty with bathing or housekeeping, unexplained weight loss, isolation, falls, trouble preparing meals or a recent hospital stay may signal that extra help would be useful. You do not have to wait for a crisis to start the conversation.
How quickly can home care start?
Care can often begin soon after a consultation, depending on the person’s needs, requested schedule and caregiver availability. If you are dealing with a hospital discharge or another time-sensitive situation, contact the DayBreak team as early as possible so we can talk through the options.
Can long-term care insurance help pay for in-home care?
Many long-term care insurance policies include benefits for qualifying in-home care. Coverage varies by policy, so it is important to review the benefit requirements. DayBreak can help families understand the documentation that is commonly needed when submitting a claim.
What areas does DayBreak serve?
DayBreak provides home care for families throughout Lexington, Columbia, Aiken and surrounding South Carolina communities. If you are unsure whether care is available in your area, contact our team and we will be happy to check.
